Socialmente lo más viable es el Open Source y no el Software Libre. No todos tenemos la suerte de que la FSF nos mantenga y permita hacer sólo Software Libre.

El Software Libre no deja de ser el extremo opuesto a Software Privativo. No garantizar algo es sinónimo de libertad en este caso, acercando el Open Source a un extremo u otro. Dejando en manos del desarrollador la mejor forma de liberar su código de acuerdo a sus intereses.

Existe un mayor calado del Open Source frente al Software Libre porque es más coherente con las situaciones reales de los que desarrollan Software.

But :

Remember the first worldwide free-software is Intenet :)
Remember also some of softwares used by common users are free (as in freedom) as :
- Firefox (now FF is totaly free)
- VLC
- LibreOffice is used more and more even by administrations of companies
- etc

the FSF is, de facto, behind each free-software, actualy.

Firefox and LibreOffice are exception because they have their own foundations which are Document Foundation & Mozilla Foundation.

But I think the situation evolve. Example, look at Audacity, It is used in my wife's school (she is english teacher)
