Petit historique de Kylin, depuis la version basée sur FreeBSD à celle basée sur Ubuntu :

Kylin is an operating system developed by academics at the National University of Defense Technology in the People's Republic of China since 2001. It is named after the mythical beast qilin. The first versions were based on FreeBSD and were intended for use by the Chinese military and other government organizations. More recently, Kylin has been Linux-based, and there is a version called NeoKylin which was announced in 2010. In 2013, it was announced that a new Linux-based operating system with the same name would be released using Ubuntu. The first version, UbuntuKylin 13.04, was released on 25 April 2013.

Pour info, je ne sais pas comment se prononce Kylin en chinois mais pour ce qui est de Qilin, ou plutôt Qi Lin, normalement on prononce Tsi Lïn

Et je ne sais pas pourquoi Canonical poursuit dans cette voie car le gouvernement chinois avaient annoncé dès la sortie de la première UbuntuKylin qu'ils trouvaient le résultat trop instable et peu sécurisé et qu'il préfèraient finalement créer eux même leur distro nationale.
Et ils ont l'expérience pour le faire car ils avaient commencé très top avec RedFlag Linux, puis Asianux...

Bref...mystère !
