Panned by the critics, but in my bold opinion, Gondry's adaptation keeps the spirit of Boris Vian.

Yes, It keeps. I read the book before I see the movie and I was not disappointed. The only thing that's lost in the movie was the completion of Vians revenge on Sartre per "Herzausreisser" (I don't know the english word for...)
