@Adrien I think a coding party, all together during a week end, at least on IRC if it's not IRL, would be the best way to achieve many things.

    Well said ^^

P.S : next time, could you use another word than "guys" to talk about potential contributors ?
This word just make me feel like I am not concerned by your message, thus it is only the 3rd time it showed on my timeline that I spent the time reading it.

If other women are like me, you may miss a lot of potential contributor in my 50% of the population ^^

@Cryptie** Yes, I think there's a better word than "guys" to include everybody... Folks? Y'all?

@Spanish: it's coming but it will be here quicker if you help us ;)

@Andrei because the project doesn't have a really good reputation, and nobody really wants to work on it as a full time job.

Andrei, there was debate some time ago when the FSSN became the non-profit entity for the diaspora* project whether there should be a fundraiser. The community didn't see this as a good idea at the time.

Maybe once the project evolves a bit.

    @ Cryptie** +1

Cryptie, that's a good point. This is a reshare of a post written by a community member rather than an 'official' post by Diaspora HQ. The positive message of encouragement in Fla's post to get more involved and spread your enthusiasm about Diaspora hopefully outweighs any possible negative effect of the word 'guys', but your point is well taken.

As a side-note, 'guys' seems now to be pretty ubiquitous in use by people under 35 for men and women in USA and UK, and probably many other English-speaking countries as well - just go to a restaurant! Whether you like it or not, it is very commonly used to mean women as well as men, so has mostly lost its exclusive connotation.

You could also use "friends", if you don't mind sounding like a preacher...

"Friends, if you love this network...promote Diaspora*! Hallelujah!"

I agree with Cryptie. The sentence is arguably stronger without the "Guys" preceding it anyway: "If you love this network, if you love the people here, and you want to see the application become better every day ..."

The more inclusive the language used here, the more inclusive Diaspora is. :)

It wasn't to make you worry or excuse yourself Fla ^^

I just love Diaspora for all it is, It feels like home here and you message is utterly important : we need more people talking about Diaspora, promoting it and contributing.

I just wanted to share some feeling I had. I just realized that if I didn't feel concerned at first, maybe I wasn't the only one and we were missing potential new great contributor ^^

I'm neither a native English speaker nor living in an English-speaking country so I read English in a little more "literal" way, but one of the strength of Diaspora comes from its diversity.

We meet people from everywhere, building a great welcoming, friendly community and, being in a lot of other places, we are doing pretty well ^^

My comment was just to say "in the future, we may be even better".

AH AH !!!!

Anyway, my classes are over now, so I might have some more time to contribute. I'm mainly a JavaScript dev, but I think a large part of the D* codebase is JS?

This is offtopic but as i found this post with some known people out here i'd like to refer to this post and ask who is in charge of joindiaspora and how is the ownership and finance of that server organized. The code version is not up to date and maybe we should find leading solutions for long known issues of this "super pod" that improve the well being of the diaspora network.
